KenGen Foundation has partnered with the Inua Dada Foundation to celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child through a media awareness campaign highlighting the importance of enabling education for girls on October 11 (VIEW CLIP BELOW).
Under the theme “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030”, this year’s celebrations reflects on the milestones under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) since their implementation in 2000, and sets goals to be achieved by 2030 through the planning of sustainable development goals for the next 15.
“The KenGen Foundation has been offering equal gender opportunities through our Education Scholarships program since inception in 2005,” says Mike Njeru, the Foundation’s Managing Trustee. “50% of our academic scholarships in high schools and universities are awarded to girls, giving them equal opportunities to compete with their counter parts.
So far, Kengen has invested KSh. 17.5 million in education scholarships for tomorrow’s leaders, with over 350 students benefiting from the program by the year 2014”, he adds.
