New ‘Green’ Teachers Trained for GIC Phase III
the benefits and challenges of growing the tree and fruit species in the program.
The Green Teachers also learnt various nursery management practices, including weeding, seed propagation, pest and disease control, and best practices in sustainable water harvesting.
Currently 120 schools from the three counties are engaged in phase II of the GIC, with additional schools scheduled to be added to the competition annually.
The GIC is a 10-year project designed as a challenge to participating schools mainly due to the dry weather conditions in the areas, and targets the greening of a total of 460 acres with 324,300 tree seedlings for both wood fuel and commercial forestry.

The best performing schools stand to benefit from education scholarships, infrastructural developments, educational tours, water tanks, rainwater-harvesting structures, and cash awards.
The date for the official launch of GIC Phase II will be communicated soon.
