KenGen Givers from Upper Tana joined hands with the KenGen Foundation for a tree planting exercise at Murang’a County on 2 December to commemorate this year’s global #GivingTuesday.

Despite the restrictions brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, students and teachers from Muchagara Primary School, Muchagara Secondary School, Kianjogu Primary School and Ihiga-ini Secondary School joined the Givers in plant 2,000 trees within the school compounds.

#GivingTuesday is an annual call-to-action for corporate organizations to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.

From giving donations, time or resources, #Giving Tuesday harnesses the power of people’s innate generosity to create real positive change in their communities.

Set up in 2015, the KenGen Employee Giver Initiative is instrumental in executing KenGen CSI activities at the company’s areas of operations. The initiative was specifically formed to enable KenGen staff donate their skills, expertise, and monetary contributions towards community and environment projects.

The tree planting exercise coincides with the onset of the short rains. It is part of the Company’s Corporate Social Investment in environmental conservation and is a reflection of the Foundation’s mission of conserving nature for sustainable livelihoods.
