KenGen Foundation Launches 120 Million Ten-year Schools Greening Project

Better Globe Forestry Ltd has committed to support the Green Initiative Challenge expansion project through the provision of tree seedlings, monitoring and evaluation equipment, and capacity building activities.

During the event, Bamburi Cement Limited Corporate Affairs and Communication’s Director Susan Maingi said her company will support the GIC expansion with education scholarships and infrastructure development to improve school facilities. The cement manufacturer will also arrange environmental education trips and sessions for the best performing schools.

The event coincided with the awarding of prizes for the best performing schools and teachers for the GIC pilot project. Kaewa Secondary School scooped the first place to win a cheque of 40,000 and a trip to Bamburi’s Haller Park and Kipevu power station. Mwea Primary school took second position with Makutano DEB Primary School getting second runners up award.

The schools Green Initiative Challenge expansion project targets to reach 140,000 school children by 2018, with the schools being used as channels to reach out to the wider community members and encourage tree planting and nurturing.
