Nathaniel Ngemu, the green teacher for Mikuyu Primary School, Machakos, showcased the various innovations the environmental club has adopted for the project. Including mulching and wind protection, the GIC students have also used charcoal ash as a means of pest control for their tree seedlings.
Mashamba Primary School, Mwea County impressed the team with their 90% survival rate of the initial 300 seedlings. The green teacher, Mr.Josphat Kyule, attributed this to various innovations including mulching, drip irrigation, weeding and constant monitoring from the students.
