The inaugural KenGen Book Drive surpassed its donation target for 2021 with a record of 1,776 collected books. The Annual Book Drive is a company-wide effort spearheaded by the KenGen Foundation with support from the Office of MD and CEO.

Speaking while making her donation, Mrs. Rebecca Miano, KenGen PLC MD and CEO, appreciated the exercise that was driven by the good will of staff in making literacy a priority for the less fortunate through books

Since its inception in December 2021, KenGen staff members dropped off their donations at strategically placed boxes across the company’s power stations. In order to foster greater participation, the book drive was also extended from its initial one month schedule to include the month of January 2022.

Upon reflecting on the exercise, KenGen Foundation’s Managing Trustee Anthony Igecha noted that the accessibility of the donations’ network allowed many more staff to get involved.

“It is with heartfelt sincerity that we thank our generous collegues for the quality of the books that were donated this year”, says Anthony.

“Working together, we were able to collect primary school text books, secondary school text books, high school course books, kindergarten school books, children storybooks, novels of various genres, tertiary and professional course books, historical books, inspirational, self-help and motivational books, topical books on various topics including relationships, family, faith, health, religion, biographies, games books , yearbooks and various magazines

All books will be distributed over the course of this month. Again, thank you to all who participated in the book drive. Your support and hard work are truly inspiring”.
