Olkaria Givers got a taste of the unique Megawatt Café cuisine during the cocktail held by the Foundation to appreciate the power stations ‘staff who have subscribed to the Employee Giver Initiative. The colourful reception was held on 5 October at Olkaria’s Geothermal Plaza grounds.
This was the first time the new café catered outside Nairobi.
The Givers were treated to sizzling fish fingers and tasty roast chicken lollipops, served with hot samosas on the side as the tantalizing smell of Mbuzi Choma filled the air during the early evening event.

Megawatt Café staff showed their expertise in serving the guests and keeping them well fed with platters of juicy nyama choma, spicy potato wedges accompanied by side plates of kachumbari.
“ Being our first catering gig, our professionalism and efficiency superseded even our own expectations. We hope to be able to cater to other areas so that the rest of KenGen staff can sample our unique menu”, said Jovita Ateya, the Megawatt Cafe Manager.
“I can’t thank the Megawatt Staff enough for the commitment and dedication they showed during the event”, he added.
The Foundation opened Megawatt Café on 11th floor, KenGen RBS Plaza 2 in mid-January 2017 as part of its plans in diversifying its social projects’ revenue streams.
With its choice menu, the café has grown in popularity with regular KenGen staff, and also clients from our corporate neighbors due to its classy and elegant ambience, panoramic view of Nairobi City, and comfortable booth style seating areas.
Apart from regular walk-in clients, the Cafe has also been the key supplier for KenGen’s meetings, events and office deliveries.
During the event, Megawatt café staff also had a chance to meet and mingle with Olkaria Givers, an eye opening experience to them on how the Company operates.
With a current workforce of ten staff, Megawatt is working on an expansion plan that will see it open a second outlet in the near future.
