Four alumni of the KenGen Education Scholarship program are set to join the company’s work force after graduating last year with first class degrees in relevant subjects in accordance with KenGen’s CSI policy.

Bernard Musyoki Wambua from Maseno University, Timothy Kimanthi Mwalali from Technical University of Kenya, Rolex Awuor Rang’ang’ah from University of Eldoret, and Titus Song’ok from Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology and Agriculture all qualified for the university scholarships after attaining straight As in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations.

Anthony Igecha, KenGen Foundation’s Senior Programs Officer, said that that the Foundation is proud of the achievements of its alumni, and is fully committed to all current students under the program.

“The successes of our alumni are a direct reflection of the values the Foundation stands for and instils in our students through the Annual Mentorship program and our Giver mentors”, he said. “The four will automatically join the KenGen Alumni Club and engage with the rest in promoting and supporting the Education Pillar of the organization”.

Bernard Wambua, a native of Machakos County and the second born in a family of four, graduated with a degree in Mathematics (IT) from Maseno University and is interested solving real life problems using mathematics as a tool. He has the following words for the current students under the KenGen Scholarships program:

“Education is the key to success. It is the dream of every single child to study to his/her level best and get a good job or start a successful business. Unfortunately in Kenya, up to date you still need to come from a rich or able family to attain basic education. Many of you just like me once wondered, even if I score good grades in my KCPE/KCSE, what hope do I have when what I need to go to the next level is not necessarily good grades but rather money. Fortunately, KenGen Scholarships programme has come up strongly and heeded to our cry. You and me now have the opportunity to realize our dreams”.

Timothy Kimanthi, a former student at Makima Secondary School class of 2009, was awarded a full University scholarship after qualifying to join The Technical University of Kenya where he pursued a degree in Bachelor of Technology (Building and construction). Timothy has the following message for the currently enrolled students:

“It wasn’t an easy journey but courage, determination and hard work kept me moving. I salute the KenGen Education Scholarships Programme for making me to be who I am today. My life has taken a brighter turn and I can now afford a smile courtesy of KenGen Foundation. To all the enrolled students, it’s really a big privilege to have such an opportunity. Use it wisely and you will never regret. God bless you, God bless KenGen Foundation.”

Titus Song’ok from Sosiani is now a Mechanical Engineer having graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. An ardent footballer and second born in a family of nine, he was awarded the university scholarship after his good performance in KCSE while at Kamagut Secondary School. His message to the current scholarship beneficiaries is:

“The KenGen Education Scholarship is an amazing program that has brought a huge difference in my life. Without this great cause I would not have acquired an education to better my family’s life.

Those fortunate to be under the steadfast wings of this sterling program should maximize and build on their strong career future”.

 

 

A former student at Ageng’a Secondary School class of 2008, Rang’ang’ah Rolex from Nyatike-Migori County graduated from University of Eldoret with a degree in Science Environmental Studies and has the following words for the Foundation:

“I would wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the KenGen fraternity for giving me a chance. I want to say thank you to all who are in connection with the KenGen Education Scholarship, because without them, who could have predicted my fate as far as education is concerned. Thank you KenGen”.

The KenGen Education Scholarship program has, since 2005, helped more than 600 bright but needy students from marginalized areas achieve their dream in education. Many have gone on to prominence. They have made – and continue to make – their marks and achieve excellence in a variety of fields such as engineering, business, arts, and the government.

Our prominent alumni are a diverse group of individuals who cover the whole country, innovating, changing lives, and making history.
