Its all systems go as the KenGen Foundation finally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Project Implementation Committees to commence the renovation of Kiambaa Primary School, and the construction of a footpath at Mirira, Upper Tana. The signing ceremony was held Tana Power Station Hall on November 1, 2016.
The signing set the ball rolling for the implementation of projects worth $50,000 using a grant from the World Bank’s Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF). The Foundation was appointed by the bank to execute the projects.
The Foundation’s Managing Trustee Mike Njeru and his team were joined by the station’s Chief Engineer Lawrence Mwagondi and his team during the function which also saw the signing of an MoU with the two project communities which will oversee the implementation of the projects.
“We are delighted at the pace in which the projects are taking shape. Let us remember the projects are meant to assist the area’s school children perform better in their studies as well as the communities economic activities”, said Mike Njeru adding “Once we break the ground, the Foundation will monitor the progress together with the community committees.
The Community Development Carbon Fund grant is as a result of carbon credits earned from the redevelopment of Upper Tana power Station under the Clean Energy Development Mechanism (CDM). This redevelopment enabled additional renewable energy, which earned more carbon credits.
