Recent subscriptions to the KenGen Employee Giver Initiative now place the number of Givers at 756, indicating a steady increase in KenGen staff actively participating in the company’s Corporate Social Investment activities.
The KenGen Foundation registered 16 new staff members from Olkaria Power Plant and the Central Office during two separate staff induction exercises carried out in the months of June and July at Olkaria and Nairobi respectively.
Interestingly, Peter Karikou and Stanley Pchumba, two of the new subscribers, are former beneficiaries of the KenGen Education Scholarships who graduated with honours to join the company as per the Human Resource policy. They are also members of the KenGen Foundation Alumni Club, formed by former beneficiaries of the scholarships program.
The half-year has also seen a majority of subscribers who had pledged a one off contribution convert to monthly Givers, especially at the Central Office.
Recently, the Givers have been engaged in the Foundation’s Corporate Social Investment activity of environmental conservation with 5,000 trees planted at Sang’oro Power Plant. Another 1,250 trees were planted at the Nairobi National Park in a unique partnership of protecting the park’s buffer zone with Nairobi Greenline.
