Upper Tana Community to benefit from the Grant
The Foundation marked a major landmark by signing a Ksh. 5 million (USD 50,000) grant with World Bank Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF) on 6th July, its first engagement with the Bank. The grant will go towards the renovation of Kiambaa Primary School, and the construction of a footpath at Mirira, Upper Tana, as part of the company’s expanding Corporate Social Investment activities.
And the Foundation’s Managing Trustee, Mike Njeru could not hide his excitement on this development. “We are delighted to sign for this grant and to work with the World Bank for the first time. The grant may be small but it means so much to the Foundation and more so to the beneficiaries”, he said upon signing the grant agreement. World Bank representative Bindu Balakrishna signed on behalf of the Bank.
The 260 students at Kiambaa Primary School will benefit through the construction of a new class room and the refurbishment of the head master’s office, staff room, and nine other class rooms. The school will also be furnished with new desks and chairs, and the plastering of all earthen floors to curb the rampant jigger menace and enhance a healthier learning environment.

The Foundation also plans to set up a small fruit garden and a woodlot to supplement the school’s diet and energy demands.
