Kaewa Secondary School students enjoy feeding giraffes at Haller Park, Mombasa. The GIC pilot project winners enjoyed a 3-day educational trip to the coast.

Thirty students and teachers from St. Martin Kaewa Secondary School, Masinga were treated to a memorable educational tour of Mombasa as a reward for emerging the overall winners of the Phase 1 of the Green Initiative Challenge, (GIC) that was concluded at the end of last year.

The three-day trip was courtesy of Bamburi Cement Ltd, one of the KenGen Foundation partners in the GIC Phase 2 program.

It was a befitting reward to the school, which had earlier on received numerous awards during the conclusion of the GIC Phase I including a 20,000 Littre water tank, a Ksh. 40,000 cash prize, and certificates. The school recorded the highest survival rate of seedlings and excelled in use of innovation in growing an impressive small forest and a woodlot in their school compound, beating over 80 schools participating in the competition.

The students and their minders were accommodated at Milele Beach Complex, a unique non- smoking, and non- alcoholic hospitality establishment along the white sands of Bamburi Beach.
