The KenGen Foundation joined other East Africa philanthropy organisations in calling for the harnessing of local resources and reaching out to the growing wealthy class in order to fund activities that boost social and economic wellbeing of society during this year’s 3rd Africa Grantmakers Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania from 1st to 3rd July.
Mike Njeru, the Managing Trustee, Anthony Igecha, Senior Programmes Officer, and Cathy Kwena, Senior Fundraising Officer represented the KenGen Foundation during this year’s conference, whose theme was ‘Building strong philanthropy support networks’.

“The Conference was a good source of information on reducing donor dependency and focusing on financial sustainability and ‘independence’”, said Cathy Kwena on her experience and lesson learned during the 3-day conference. “It was also a great opportunity for networking and comparing notes on challenges and rewards of working in philanthropy”, she added.
The conference was a valuable learning and exchange platform with a particular focus on ways foundations can derive optimum value from philanthropy networks and make proposals on strategies for strengthening philanthropy networks at the national, regional and global level.
